The Indianapolis Colts know they have to address their need at running back, with Jonathan Taylor expected to be unavailable in their Week 1 assignment.

The 2021 NFL Rushing Yards leader requested a trade from the Colts in July after both sides failed to come to terms on a contract extension, NBC Sports reported.

Among the teams who reportedly had interest in Taylor were the Miami Dolphins and the Green Bay Packers. No deals came close to materializing the imposed deadline of the Colts.

Regardless, anything is possible with the NFL trade deadline set for October 31. The Dolphins and the Packers will remain in potential trade talks, with more teams possibly entering the fray moving forward.

For now, Taylor will have to wait. The Indianapolis Colts placed him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list in August, and this is expected to drag on until an acceptable offer is on the table, NFL.com reported.

Colts doing due diligence

With the chances of Taylor returning to play dimming by the day, the Colts hope that Deon and Evan Hull can somehow hold up the fort. Indianapolis also has Jake Funk and Jason Huntley on their practice squad, but the team is doing due diligence in broadening its options.

The Colts turned their attention to the NFL free agent market and are giving James Robinson a look, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported, citing sources.

The 25-year-old played 35 games for the Jaguars from 2020-22 and rushed 485 times for 2,177 yards and 18 touchdowns.
