Inter Miami has hit the ground running on constructing their new home stadium, Miami Freedom Park, which will be in the city. The team is currently playing at the 21,000-seater DRV PNK Stadium located in Fort Lauderdale.

The club announced that construction on the new stadium started earlier this month, and they are aiming to get the 25,000-seater playing venue complete by 2025, which is the final year of Argentine icon Lionel Messi's contract with them.

The World Cup winner signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Inter Miami last month, including the remainder of the 2023 season plus the 2024 and 2025 campaigns.

It is unclear yet at which point in 2025 the stadium will be ready. A typical MLS season starts in late February or early March and will run until the middle of October.

Any setbacks on the construction schedule would mean that Messi may not see action at the Miami Freedom Park unless he extends his contract.

The project will also include three hotels with a combined 750 rooms, 400,000 square feet of office space, and 600,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space aside from the stadium. The entire complex is estimated to cost around $1 billion.

Argentina is also building a facility in Miami

The reigning FIFA World Cup champions are also building a facility in Messi's new home city with a training ground and satellite office after securing a record $42 million prize for winning the sport's most prestigious tournament.

The Argentine Football Association hopes to open the facility ahead of the 2024 Copa America, which will be held in the United States.
