Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott expressed his disappointment for backup Will Grier, who is set to be released by the team.

"Honestly right now, my heart and my mind is with Will. So it's a tough situation, honestly. Love that guy to death over there. Plays his a** off, comes in, prepares the right way each and every day," the 30-year-old said.

Grier was the odd man out in Dallas' quarterback lineup following the Cowboys' acquisition of the 2021 NFL Draft third overall pick Trey Lance from the San Francisco 49ers.

The 2016 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year also said that he did not expect a heads-up from the team regarding the Lance trade, but he understands the nature of the business and the team being on a timeline, needing to get something done.

Will Grier play in the Cowboys' final preseason game

The Cowboys let their departing backup quarterback play a full game from start to finish during Dallas' final preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders at home.

The game will serve as Grier's "audition tape" for prospective NFL teams who are interested in the services of the 28-year-old.

Grier did not disappoint, putting up 29-of-35 pass completions, 305 passing yards, 53 rushing yards, 2 touchdown passes, and 2 rushing touchdowns, with zero interceptions in his final game in a Cowboys uniform.
