In a surprising turn of events, veteran linebacker Myles Jack has informed the Philadephia Eagles that he will be retiring from the sport ahead of the 2023 NFL season, according to multiple reports.
The 27-year-old signed with the Eagles over two weeks ago on August 6. He last played for the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2022 season.
According to ESPN, Jack "had a relatively quiet training camp," resulting in him falling from the Eagles' depth chart the past few days.
Jack was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft with the 36th overall pick. He spent the first six seasons of his football career with the Florida-based team.
The former UCLA player ends his professional career with 617 tackles, 6.5 sacks, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and a touchdown in 103 NFL regular season games.
He also earned around $49 million in salary and signing bonuses throughout his seven-season career in the league, as per Spotrac.

Myles Jack contemplated entering trade school
Jack was considering entering trade school to become a plumber or electrician after the Steelers released him in March of this year.
It took a while for the linebacker to receive interest from around the league, prompting him to prepare for life outside the sport.
While he has earned enough money to keep himself afloat, Jack likes to work and be innovative and build something instead of sitting at home.
