The Oakland Athletics continue to make progress ahead of their intention to move to Las Vegas.

The team has already hired the Mortenson-McCarthy construction firm as the construction manager for their new ballpark in Las Vegas.

The Mortensen and McCarthy Building Companies will oversee all construction-related activities, including preconstruction estimating, scheduling and logistics planning, bidding, coordination and management of all craft employees and trade partners, labor relations, and community engagement, according to Sports Illustrated.

The hire is pending approval by the Las Vegas Stadium Authority, and the whole project could cost around $1.5 billion.

A's president Dave Kaval said that Mortenson-McCarthy brings exceptional expertise and experience to their project.

"Their focus on innovation, safety, and efficiency makes them the best in their field," the 47-year-old executive added.

The same team also constructed the Allegiant Stadium of the NFL's Las Vegas Raiders. The team also moved from Oakland to Las Vegas in 2020, and the stadium took 31 months to construct.

Oakland Athletics will need a temporary home for three years

The A's plan to play in Oakland until the end of their lease in the 2024 season, but the team's proposed Las Vegas stadium won't be ready until the 2028 season.

That leaves the team without a home during the 2025, 2026, and 2027 seasons. Potential temporary hosts include Las Vegas, albeit in a smaller stadium, Reno Sacramento, and other options in the Bay Area.
