Liberty University announced the tragic passing of one of its student-athletes, incoming freshman Tajh Boyd last Sunday at 19 years of age for unknown reasons.

"It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the loss of one of our student-athletes, Tajh Boyd. Tajh joined our Liberty Football family as recently as January, and his impact on the program will be felt for years to come," the university said in a statement by Ian McCaw, Liberty University's Vice President and Director of Athletics.
Boyd was supposed to be playing as an offensive lineman for the Liberty Flames football team for the upcoming 2023 Conference USA football season, which was due to start at the end of the month as part of the 2023 NCAA Division I FBS football season.

Tajh Boyd was a high school standout
Boyd, who was coming out of Oscar F. Smith High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, signed his letter of intent with Liberty in December 2022 as a member of the 2023 recruiting class, according to Sports Illustrated.
Boyd helped his high school team win two consecutive state championships, and he planned to be a computer science engineer after graduating.
He was ranked as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and also received offers from several universities such as Buffalo, Duke, Jackson State, Maine, Maryland, Morgan State, North Carolina, A&T, and Virginia Tech, among many others.
