Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson admitted his admiration for longtime rival Chris Paul, who will now be playing alongside them in San Francisco for the upcoming 2023-24 NBA season after being acquired in a blockbuster trade earlier this offseason that saw the Dubs ship out young star Jordan Poole.

Thompson stated that his team is lucky to have the services of Paul, whom he called one of the greatest players ever, noting that Paul has elevated every franchise where he played the point guard spot.

The four-time champion was also excited about the personal on-court implications for him following the acquisition.

"I'm excited. I just know CP's gonna put it right here [showing his hands], on the seams. He's gonna set me up nicely. I'm gonna get a couple extra easy buckets every night," the 33-year-old explained in an appearance on Paul George's Podcast P show.

Thompson added that Paul is a proven winner, having played against him many times and seeing his competitiveness.

"He'll do anything to win. That's the vibe we want," the five-time All-Star said.

Former Warrior skeptical of Chris Paul's acquisition

Like many who are divided on the Dubs' acquisition of the 38-year-old, DeMarcus Cousins, who played for Golden State during the 2018-19 season, expressed his doubts about the move.

"He is up in age.. I'm not taking away anything Chris Paul has done throughout his career. I'm just speaking on this stage of his career. I don't see him elevating the Golden State Warriors," Cousins said.
