The NFL has suspended Dallas Cowboys running back Ronald Jones for the first two games of the 2023 season for violating the league's performance-enhancing drugs policy.

The 25-year-old said his failed test resulted from a heart medicine that he has been prescribed since he entered the league in 2018.

"We tried to appeal. I asked for a re-test, sample my blood, my health concerns and they didn't really look at it. I think there needs to be more protection for the players because if you have health issues, we're a human being outside of football and we have real-life issues too. My family suffers from heart disease," Jones said.

The running back out of USC said that he was clearly not on steroids, noting his skinny physique and reiterating that the failed drug test was due to a heart stimulant.

The Cowboys signed Jones last March as a free agent. He will be entering his sixth season in the NFL this year.

Ronald Jones is a two-time Super Bowl champion

Five years into his career, the 25-year-old has been part of two Super Bowl-winning rosters.

His first taste of Super Bowl glory came during the 2020 season when future Hall-of-Famer Tom Brady won the final championship of his career with Tampa Bay.

Jones was also part of last season's Kansas City Chiefs, who won the Super Bowl LVII last February thanks to Patrick Mahomes' MVP performance.
