Netherlands held the United States to a 1-1 draw during their group stage match in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup on Wednesday night, facing a crowd of 27,312 fans at the Wellington Regional Stadium in New Zealand.

Dutch midfielder Jill Roord opened the scoring in the 16th minute, striking from inside the box. Lindsey Horan equalized for the Americans with a header in the 62nd minute to salvage a draw.

The Dutch snapped a 13-game winning streak in the Women's World Cup by the United States women's soccer team, dating back to eight years ago.

The last time the United States failed to win a Women's World Cup match was in 2015 when Sweden held them to a goalless draw. Regardless, they still won that year's tournament and the latest edition in 2019.

They also went 17 games in a row without trailing in the tournament, dating back to 2011.

Rematch of previous Women's World Cup Final

The highly anticipated group stage fixture was a rematch of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup final in July 2019.

The two teams faced off four years ago at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in France for the deciding game of the tournament.

The United States decisively won the final over the Netherlands, 2-0, courtesy of a penalty by captain Megan Rapinoe in the 61st minute, followed by a left-footed strike by Rose Lavelle in the 69th minute.

Rapinoe was named the Player of the Match.
