Manchester City: Pep Guardiola Says Erling Haaland 'Far From Best Condition'

Erling Haaland will come to the new football season with higher expectations after breaking records and steering Manchester City to a treble in his first in the Premier League.

Is he ready to take things to a higher level?

His manager Pep Guardiola thinks his physical condition has yet to reach its best. "He is still a way from the best condition, like everyone," said the Spanish manager.

However, that is not a dig to the wunderkind's work ethic. It is more like a warning.

Guardiola said although the 23-year-old still has work to do with his condition, he is already fitter than he was during his sensational 2022-2023 season.

"Comparing last season, that period," he told reporters in Japan after their friendly match against the Yokohama Marinos.

"He is fitter, much better, than last season when he arrived. I know we would love to be like last season.

Haaland scored 52 goals in 53 games in all competitions last season. He also broke Alan Shearer and Andy Cole's joint record for most goals in one season.

Haaland ready to roar, as shown in friendly in Japan

Guardiola is not exaggerating, as Haaland showed how eager he is to prove himself again.

The Norwegian spearheaded City's comeback against Yokohama Marinos in a friendly after he subbed in in the second half and scored two goals, one of which came seven minutes into the second half.

Pep said Haaland needed those goals after experiencing a scoring drought before the end of last season.
