Carmelo Anthony Denies ESPN Report That He’s Leaving Knicks After This Season [VIDEO]

New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony is vehemently denying a report from ESPN.com that he has decided to leave his team when he becomes a free agent after this season.

"I'm not thinking about that," Anthony told Newsday.com prior to the Knicks meeting their crosstown rivals Brooklyn Nets on Thursday. "I'll be selfish to think about that at this point, with us losing and going through the situation that we are going through. It'd be selfish on my part to my teammates and to the organization to even have that thought come across my mind.

On Thursday, ESPN.com reported in its Rumor Central that the Knicks franchise player had already made up his mind about not coming back to New York after his deal expires, despite the Knicks having the capacity to pay him more money.

"If it's not coming from me, if it's not coming from people I talk to on a daily basis -- which I don't talk to anybody about that, anybody in my crew, anybody on my team, family, nobody -- then it's just not true," Anthony reiterated. Despite winning over the Nets, 113-83 to snap a nine-game losing streak, the Knicks still have a horrendous 4-13 win-loss slate. Players have been frustrated, especially Anthony who has called his team "the laughingstock of the league."

Anthony remains one of the best players in the league, and his free agency next year has been the subject of speculation. He is rumored to be contemplating to join his good friend Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers next season, although the Lakers can only offer him a four-year deal and money that is less than $34 million than what he could get from the Knicks.
