Milwaukee Brewers' defense can expect a huge boost come the second half of the MLB season as Brandon Woodruff continues his recovery with a return already on the horizon.
General Manager Matt Arnold told MLB Network that Woodruff made another attempt at a bullpen and could return to the rotation "within the next month or so."
The 30-year-old has been out since April due to a shoulder injury.
He was set for a near return last month but was shut down around two weeks ago as his shoulder was not responding well to the rehab.
Last May, Woodruff was told to be more careful in treating his injury as what he is dealing with can be complicated. He said that he felt ready to return at one point but decided against it, per the doctors' advice.
"My body's gonna tell me when I'm ready," he told Adam McCalvy of MLB.com two months ago.
"I'm not going to rush it, I'm not going to come back too quick. I don't think that's good for myself or for anybody else. I'm just happy now that I have a goal to look forward to."
Current standing of Brewers
The Brewers finished the first half of the season in second place in the NL Central Standings behind the Cincinnati Reds.
This is despite their injury woes and struggles in the offense.
They are still above the league average in defense with 8.16 strikeouts and a 4.36 overall score.
