Former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy has been found not guilty of rape and sexual assault after a three-week trial at England's Chester Crown Court.

The first to offer sympathy and congratulations was Atletico Madrid forward Memphis Depay.

In an emotional post, the Dutch player asks several questions centered around the wasted career of Mendy all because of the accusations.

"So what are we doing now? Who is going to help this brother heal? Who's going to be responsible for the damage on his name? How he's going to have his career back? Many years of investment to become a professional football player... Now what!?" Depay wrote on Twitter.

Depay also cleared that he never put Mendy on the pedestal. However, he does not think that what happened to Mendy was fair.

"We can't accept this to happen to us as athletes. Who's going to stand up for us in the time of need not when the damage is already done? Don't turn your head people."

Mendy's crimes and answer to Depay's question

Several complainants came forward, accusing Mendy of forcing himself on them starting in August 2021.

By June 2022, Mendy was charged with at least seven counts of rape, one attempted rape, and one sexual assault forwarded by seven complainants.

Many accusers said the crime occurred in Mendy's mansion in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire.

The 28-year-old can still return to professional football. Teams can negotiate with him, but since he has not played competitive football in the last two years, he will need some reconditioning before getting signed again.
