It is great when you go out on your terms, but it seems New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has not thought of it as his career continues to slide down.

It looks like he is about to get the pink slip amid New England Patriots' struggles in the past seasons.

The Boston Globe reported that the eight-time Super Bowl champion coach is in danger of losing his job if he fails to meet the goals of owner Robert Kraft.

"Robert Kraft already made it clear in March that he wants the Patriots to make the postseason and win a playoff game for the first time in five years," the publication wrote.

"He also paid Jerod Mayo handsomely to keep him off the coaching market and likely views him as the team's coach-in-waiting. And Belichick's friends have privately said they are worried that he is on the hot seat in 2023."

Undesirable record and misusing Mac Jones

Belichick is a decorated coach, but the past seasons were not even a shade of the Patriots' glorious days.

Data published by CBS Sports showed him as the fifth in the All-Time list of most losses by a coach in a regular season and fifth all-time in most losses in the playoffs.

Interestingly, he is also fifth in most wins by a coach.

Another reason Belichick is no longer popular, even among his former players, was his utilization of Mac Jones.

The 15th overall draft pick of 2021 had a sensational rookie year, and Kraft considered him the man to bring the Patriots back to glory. However, his stock dropped in the last two seasons, and he was not featured prominently anymore in the team's offense.
