Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams gave an update regarding his gruesome right knee injury sustained during their week 4 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders in the early weeks of the 2022 NFL season.
"I mean, that's the plan. I feel like I'm ready to go. It's just all about the evaluation, how the Broncos feel about it," Williams said when asked if he will be medically cleared by training camp, which starts on July 25.
The 23-year-old sustained tears on the ACL, LCL, and posterolateral corner on October 2 last year, prematurely ending his 2022 NFL season. His injuries were some of the worst that an athlete can face.
The Broncos drafted Williams as the 35th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He played college football for three seasons in North Carolina.
The North Carolina native appeared in all 17 games for the Broncos during his rookie season, starting in one game.
Williams finished his rookie year with 203 carries for 903 yards (4.4 YPC), four rushing touchdowns, 43 receptions for 319 yards, and three receiving touchdowns.
Javonte Williams aims to play the same way
Williams had a definite answer when asked if he plans to still run with the same physical style he did before the injury.
"I don't want to get back on the field playing scared or timid," the Pro Football Writers of America NFL All-Rookie Team selection said.
Williams believes he has cleared the mental hurdles to continue to play with his violent style, but he will continue to practice with a brace on his surgically repaired knee as a precaution.
