Grant Williams has left many Boston Celtics fans emotional after bidding goodbye to the organization that served as his first home.
Turning to Twitter, the undersized power forward looked back to when he was accepted by the city and thanked fans for their support.
"To the Celtics, the city and my brothers: Thank you for your belief in me and support through all of our seasons of basketball and life," he wrote.
"I'm beyond grateful to have been a part of this organization & will forever have love for the people that surrounded me in this experience️"
Williams was traded to the Dallas Mavericks last week in exchange for draft picks.
He was drafted 22nd overall by the Celtics in 2019.
Williams knew his time was up in Boston long before
The return of another forward and the arrival of Kristaps Porzingis made Williams believe that it is only a matter of time before he gets traded next.
In an interview with Jared Weiss of The Athletic, Williams shared that he was just waiting for the news of his departure as he expected his role to dwindle.
He did not exactly like the development, but he felt his camp got a great deal despite his role being limited in the past years.
"I was thankful just because I feel like the way my agent and everybody talked about it was that this was our floor," Williams said.
"In Boston, it's really like $48 million with the millionaire's tax, so $54 million in Dallas is really like $58 million in Boston and $63 million in L.A."
