Mason Mount is moving on to a new chapter of his career after signing with Manchester United from Chelsea.
The Red Devils completed the move after paying $70 million for the English midfielder. Mount will stay at Old Trafford until 2028, according to the deal.
While the 24-year-old is excited about his new tea, he said that moving was an easy decision with how his career with the Blues turned out.
He was specifically talking about how he languished on the bench and about his delayed contract. During the 2022 season, he had to compete with Antonio Rüdiger, Andreas Christensen, N'Golo Kanté, or Jorginho. He still has one year left with Chelsea, but he said it did not seem to be a priority for the club.
The combination of these developments made him seek a new club.
"Several months it became clear to me that I was not in Chelsea's plan and once Man United were involved, my decision is made up," he told Sky Sports.
Mount's drive matches Manchester United's
Mount is a self-described, ambitious person who thinks of the Red Devils as the perfect team to match his energy.
"Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under [manager] Erik ten Hag," he said through the club website.
"Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn't be more excited for the seasons ahead, and I am ready for the hard work expected here.
"I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United."
