Another former Barcelona star is set to grace the DRV PNK Stadium as reports have revealed that Jordi Alba is close to completing a transfer to Inter Miami.
Alba will join his former Camp Nou teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets in the American club if completed.
The Athletic wrote in its exclusive report:
"Inter Miami are increasingly confident they can sign Spanish defender Jordi Alba, sources with knowledge of the situation tell The Athletic. Sources granted anonymity as they're not authorized to discuss the deal publicly. No deal for Alba is yet done or signed, but Miami are optimistic. If Alba joins, he won't occupy one of the club's three designated player slots."
Alba's time with Barcelona ended abruptly after he and the Spanish giants agreed to terminate his contract after the 2022-2023 sports calendar year, a season earlier than what's stated in his contract.
How will Alba fit in if there's no DP slot left?
While the designated player slots have already been filled, the 34-year-old former Spain captain can still make it to the final cut.
Mundo Deportivo said Inter Miami plan to use 'targeted allocated money' for him. This feature is exempted from an MLS club's salary limit but has a $2.1 million maximum annual salary. The club is also looking for other ways to increase Alba's wage.
Inter Miami will need all the reinforcement they can get as they currently sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, nine points behind a Final Series play-offs spot.
