Gareth Bale believes there is one thing that Lionel Messi will find pleasantly surprising playing in Major League Soccer - the atmosphere after a loss.

The Welsh football star spent last season with Los Angeles FC and helped them win the MLS Cup. He was asked what advice he would give Messi, who is about to debut for Inter Miami this July.

Bale said Messi would not deal with unruly, bitter fans even if his team loses in the American league as the fans are "chill" compared to their European counterparts.

"If you lose at Real Madrid, it is like the world has ended," the 33-year-old winger told BT Sport.

"You are crucified. You feel down. You go home and you're not happy. They accept losing a bit more. There is no consequence. You can't get relegated over there. When you lose a game you go on to the next one. They accept losing a lot better over there."

The now-retired Bale is no stranger to unruly fans, having played for Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid, with whom he spent nine years and won many trophies.

The most painful losses Real Madrid suffered while he was still with the team were those inflicted by Messi's Barcelona, their biggest rival.

Inter Miami's losing record gets a boost

Messi is set to debut for Inter Miami this July.

While many Americans see his arrival as a spectacle due to the command and influence he carries, Messi insists that he joined the club to help them win.

His friend and former Argentina teammate Sergio Aguero said he showed Messi the standings to tell him how long the climb would be when he arrived.

Aguero said his friend replied, "We have to make the playoffs!"
