The much-awaited verdict by the league regarding Ja Morant's second gun-flashing incident on social media has finally been announced.
The Grizzlies star will undergo a significant suspension of 25 games, or about 30% of the team's 82 regular season games.
Morant released a statement afterward, apologizing to the league, the Grizzlies, his teammates, and the city of Memphis.
The electrifying guard also singled out NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, Grizzlies General Manager Zach Kleiman, and Grizzlies owner Robert Pera for apologies.
The 2020 Rookie of the Year promised to be a better role model to kids and a better representative for his sponsors. He is also spending the offseason working on his mental health and decision-making and honing his skills on the basketball court for his eventual return.
Morant ended the statement by asking his fans to give him a chance to prove that he is a better man than what he has been showing.
NBPA Not Happy With Ja Morant Punishment
Meanwhile, the National Basketball Players' Association was not happy about the length of the suspension of the 2022 NBA Most Improved Player.
The player's union released a statement, saying that the suspension was excessive and inappropriate for many reasons, including facts involved in the incident.
They added that the verdict is not fair and consistent with past discipline in the league and that they are exploring options with Morant for the next steps.
