Controversial Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has been facing much scrutiny lately, but it did not prevent his latest shoe release from selling out like hotcakes.
Morant was seen flashing a gun on Instagram Live earlier this month for the second time, putting his endorsement deals in peril. The Grizzlies organization has already suspended the star, and the NBA is conducting a thorough investigation to determine Morant's fate.
Nike Releases Ja Morant Shoes; Sold Out Within Minutes
It was reported last week that Nike had removed Morant's shoe from their website, but the upcoming "Hunger" colorway of the sneaker was still on the sportswear giant's SNKRS app schedule for release on May 25, according to a tweet by Ball Don't Lie by Yahoo! Sports.
The electrifying guard's off-court troubles did not stop the Bevearton-based company from proceeding with the scheduled release date of the shoe, which has a mismatched color design for the left and right pair, as per TMZ.
The red-blue-black pair retailed for $110 in the Nike SNKRS app, but they now go for around $200 on sneaker reseller sites such as GOAT and StockX.
The shoe was first unveiled and worn on-court by Morant in their Christmas game against the Golden State Warriors in 2022.
Nike has heavily marketed the sneaker through Morant's dynamic game and called it "bulit for Nike Basketball's first signature Gen Z athlete."
