Retired NBA legend Dwyane Wade is reportedly interested in acquiring an ownership stake in his hometown WNBA team, Chicago Sky, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The three-time champion was spotted during a Sky practice at Sachs Recreation Center in the Deerfield suburb of Chicago on Tuesday.

Sky shooting guard Dana Evans was enthusiastic about the prospect of the 2006 NBA Finals MVP investing in her team.

"We need people like him. We need more NBA players to help expand the WNBA, and he talked a lot about that. It was pretty encouraging," she said.

The Sky is one of seven independently owned WNBA teams. They also do not have an affiliated team in the NBA, although the Bulls play in the same city.

Wade has purchased minority stakes in the NBA's Utah Jazz and MLS club Real Salt Lake since his retirement in 2019.

Dwyane Wade's Cousin is Sky's General Manager and Head Coach

Chicago Sky general manager and head coach James Wade is a cousin of the Miami Heat legend.

James Wade, who coached the squad to the 2021 WNBA Championship, mentioned that a potential investment from D-Wade would mean a lot.

"He's recognized and has a reputation of supporting not only this league but supporting everyone, so it would be special if something like that were to happen," the 47-year-old mentor said.

The elder Wade was named the WNBA's Coach of the Year in 2019 and the WNBA's Executive of the Year in 2022.
