The Washington Wizards organization and star Bradley Beal are keeping in touch to discuss potential trade scenarios should the franchise pull the trigger on a complete rebuild. This comes after several teams have reached out to the Wizards hoping to add Beal to their roster.
It is not yet determined if the Wizards will ultimately decide upon a rebuild, but sources said both sides are working amicably to find the path forward, according to Shams Charania and Josh Robbins of The Athletic.
Beal declined the final year of his previous contract worth $36.4 million to become a free agent in June 2022.
The three-time All-Star later signed a new max contract in July worth $251 million for five years, the second-largest contract in NBA history so far, to remain in Washington.
Bradley Beal Has a Special Clause in His Contract
The 29-year-old is the only player in the league to have a no-trade clause in his contract, meaning he could veto any trade that he is involved in.
This gives Beal the ability to choose his next destination and control aspects of a potential trade that could impact his ability to play for a contender.
The Wizards drafted Beal as the 3rd overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. He has spent his 10-year career in the nation's capital, getting selected for the NBA All-Star Game in 2018, 2019, and 2021.
The potent-scoring shooting guard was also named to the All-NBA Third Team in 2021.
