Treble-hunters Manchester City is seeking to achieve European glory on Saturday against Inter Milan, but they are now making their moves behind the scenes to bolster their squad next season.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, central midfielder Mateo Kovacić has now agreed personal terms with Manchester City.
The Croatian international plays for Chelsea, but the London-based club is open to selling him. Kovacic also wants the move to the dominant Pep Guardiola-managed side.
For the next step, the two clubs will discuss the transfer fee after Manchester City is done with the UEFA Champions League final.
Chelsea Undergoing Massive Changes in Midfield
Romano first reported about the Kovacic move earlier this month. He previously played for Spanish giants Real Madrid, where he won three consecutive Champions League trophies from 2016 to 2018 and the 2017 La Liga title.
Chelsea is amid massive changes in their midfield, with French international N'Golo Kante moving to Saudi Arabia's Al-Ittihad in a lucrative deal worth more than $100 million annually.
The London club secured the services of recent World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez for the next eight years in a deal expiring in 2031.
Chelsea paid more than $120 million, a British record, to acquire the midfielder from Portuguese club Benfica during the winter transfer window in January 2023.
The 22-year-old Argentine won the Young Player Award of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
