Sports media personality Colin Cowherd made an interesting trade proposal involving a straight swap between Phoenix Suns star Chris Paul and Boston Celtics point guard Marcus Smart.

Paul has been subject to multiple rumors for the past 24 hours, with Bleacher Report and TNT insider Chris Haynes reporting that he is set to be waived by the team.

On the other hand, The Athletic's Shams Charania and ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski have reported that the Suns are still working on several possibilities for the star point guard, including a trade or keeping Paul on the team.

Colin Cowherd's Take Draws Several Reactions From Fans

Several Celtics fans did not like the trade scenario, which would involve the team parting ways with the 2022 NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

This Twitter user noted Paul's extensive injury history and mileage compared to Smart, the third option for the Beantown.

Aside from the age disparity, a fan also noted that it would be impossible to make a 1-on-1 swap between the two due to the difference in salaries. Paul is set to make more than $30 million for the 2023-24 season, while Smart will make $18.5 million.

Another fan pointed out that the Boston Celtics do not need another guard, but rather more defensive presence and low post threat. Losing Smart does not bode well for the team's defense.
