The NBA is considering adding an in-game penalty for obvious flops to combat the unsportsmanlike behavior that has plagued the league.

League insider Shans Charania reported on The Rally that the NBA Competition Committee is discussing a potential penalty for flops that would result in a technical foul and a free throw for the opposing team.

NBA Wants to Punish Flopping

Flopping is characterized as the deliberate act of falling when little or no contact is made in an attempt to trick referees into calling a foul.

The potential in-game penalty of a technical foul free throw could go on trial as early as July in the NBA Summer League.

The NBA began its crackdown on flopping during the 2012-13 NBA season, wherein a warning was first imposed on offending players before a fine up until a possible suspension was given for each offense, according to ESPN.

This has been a long-standing issue for the league, and it was recently brought up again during the much-heated Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers Western Conference Semifinals matchup this month.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr accused Lakers players of flopping, while Lakers coach Darvin Ham and superstar LeBron James denied these allegations.

"I just know that we, our coaching staff and us players, we don't work on flopping. That's not even part of our game," the all-time leading scorer in league history said.
