British tennis star Andy Murray has begged off the upcoming French Open, also known as Roland-Garros referring to the sports complex where the tournament is held. The 2023 edition of the tournament is set to start at the end of the month.
Murray is not the only big name to withdraw from the clay-court tournament. Its most prolific perfomer, 14-time winner Rafael Nadal, will also miss the tournament for the first time in his career due to a nagging hip injury.

Andy Murray Withdraws From French Open To Focus on Wimbledon
The 36-year-old last played at the clay-court major in 2020, losing in straight sets against Stan Wawrinka.
Murray mentioned in an interview earlier this month that he was unsure of playing at the Roland Garros. He also said that his best chance at winning might be in his home tournament at Wimbledon.
"I'm aware that my best chance of having a deep run is more likely to happen at Wimbledon," the three-time Grand Slam winner said at thew time, via The Guardian.
Now, Murray has officially withdrawn from the competition as he shifts his focus to Wimbledon, according to ATP Tour.
Andy Murray has already missed multiple editions of the French Open in recent years due concerns of over-extending his body coming into the grass season of the sport.
The French Open is considered the most physically demaning among the Grand Slam tournaments due to the unpredictability of the clay surface, slower pace of the game and the longer best-of-five-set matches in the men's tournament.
