Imola Grand Prix Cancelled
The event, which is informally called the Imola Grand Prix, was supposed to be the sixth race of the season.
Before coming up with the decision, discussions between Formula 1, the FIA president, and relevant Italian authorities occurred.
The decision was ultimately taken because it was impossible to hold the event safely for fans.
The authorities also felt it was the right thing to do amidst the difficult situation the affected towns and cities faced. They are avoiding further pressure on local authorities and emergency services in the area.
The event's fate remains in the air, whether it would be rescheduled or canceled altogether.
Several drivers, including two-time reigning champion Max Verstappen, supported the decision to call off the race.
Italian journalist Vincenzo Landino suggested a virtual version of the race involving all 20 Formula 1 drivers, with the proceeds going to the local area.
The next race on the calendar will be the historic Monaco Grand Prix, which will be held on May 28.
