The incident involved a 13-year-old boy who used his father's guns to kill eight schoolchildren and a school guard in Belgrade, less than 200 kilometers from Jokic's hometown of Sombor.
Jokic told reporters that it was a rare occurrence in Serbia, and he was sorry for what the families were going through.
He stated that it is much tougher to handle when such an incident happens closer to home. According to reports, this was the first school shooting in modern Serbian history.
“I’m really sorry for everything families are going through... It's Serbia, it never happened before... People, kids, they all have some problems... We need to take care of everybody."
