The Dallas Mavericks General Manager, Nico Harrison, hopes the team will be able to achieve their main offseason goal of re-signing Kyrie Irving.
"I think the things that he said along the way about how he feels here, how he feels appreciated, how he feels accepted and allowed to be himself - those are the things that he said kind of consistently," Harrison said.
Mavs GM on Kyrie: "The things that he said along the way about how he feels here, how he feels appreciated, how he feels um, accepted and allowed to be himself -- those are the things that he said kind of consistently. That's what gives me the optimism that he wants to be here." https://t.co/a2m5HvLrS2

Irving, Doncic as the core of a championship team
Irving was traded to the Mavericks in January. Although he initially had no interest in discussing a contract extension, the team has his Bird rights, making him eligible for a five-year deal worth up to $272 million with the Mavericks or a four-year deal worth around $202 million with another team.
Since joining the Mavericks, Irving has not spoken to the media about his free agency plans. He was not made available to reporters after the team's disappointing season ended.
Despite the team's struggles since Irving's arrival, the Mavericks are confident that he and Luka Doncic can be the core of a championship team. However, there are concerns within the organization that Doncic may request a trade if the team doesn't show significant improvement next season. Nevertheless, Mavericks' governor Mark Cuban, coach Jason Kidd, and Harrison have all stated that Irving remains a crucial part of the team's future plans.
