Team USA remained in second place behind leader People's Republic of China after Day 10 of the Tokyo Olympics. The Americans grabbed two golds, two silvers and one bronze medal on Day 10 to boost their total haul in Tokyo to 22 golds, 25 silvers and 17 bronze medals.

The Americans lost further ground to the Chinese, though, who now have 29 golds, 17 silvers and 16 bronze medals in their collection. Japan did not win any gold medals on Day 10 as the host nation remained in third place with 17 golds, 6 silvers and 10 bronzes.

Carey takes home the gold in floor exercise

American gymnast Jade Carey secured the gold medal for Team USA in the women's floor exercise after an impressive routine in Monday's final. She nailed all four of her tumbling passes, including nine flips and six twists in her performance, to become the third consecutive American to take gold in the event.

Aly Raisman won the gold medal in the floor exercise back in 2012, while Simone Biles took home the top prize in 2016. Biles had the opportunity to defend her title this year but opted to withdraw due to mental health concerns. Carey stepped up big time in Biles' absence, with her gold now the fifth medal of Team USA in women's gymnastics in the Tokyo Olympics.

Carey bounced back strongly after a disappointing showing in the individual all-around final. She finished a lowly eighth in the event after stepping in for Biles, who had dropped out of the competition. Carey's score of 13.966 was among the best in the floor routine category of that event, giving her hope that she can win a medal on Monday.

That she did emphatically, posting a top score of 14.366. That was enough to beat Italy's Vanessa Ferrari, who finished second with a score of 14.200. Coming in third were Russian Olympic Committee's Angelina Melnikova and Japan's Mai Murakami, who collected bronze medals after recording 14.166.

Allman gives Team USA first gold in track and field

Team USA finally opened its gold medal account in track and field in the Tokyo Olympics, with Valarie Allman capturing the victory in women's discus throw. Allman opened the final with a massive throw of 68.98 meters. Her opponents tried to beat that mark in the next hour of competition, but they failed to do so, giving the gold to Allman.

Allman finally provided some good news to an American team that suffered gut-wrenching defeats in 4x400 mixed relay, men's 100-meter race, and 100-meter hurdles. Team USA needed to wait for Day 4 of the track and field competition in Tokyo to get that coveted gold medal, with Allman ending the drought.
