Team USA returns to action on Day 11 of the Tokyo Olympics, with the Americans taking on powerhouse Spain in a mouth-watering quarterfinal matchup in the men's basketball competition. Gymnastics fans are also in for a treat as Simone Biles returns to action for Team USA in what could be the final Olympics event of her career.

Women's beach volleyball and women's water polo also hit the quarterfinal rounds today, with Team USA looking for positive results in those two events.

Team USA to face Spain in blockbuster showdown

Team USA got the worst possible draw on Sunday night in men's basketball as the Americans were handed an early meeting with 2019 FIBA World Cup champions Spain in the quarterfinals. Both nations finished in second place in their respective groups with a 2-1 slate after the United States lost to France and Spain lost to Slovenia.

The good news for Team USA is that they are rounding into form ahead of the knockout stages. They crushed the Czech Republic in their last group match, winning by 119-84. Kevin Durant helped the Americans overcome a poor start, leading all scorers with 23 points to become Team USA's new record holder in scoring in men's basketball in the Olympics.

They can ill afford to start slow, though, in the quarters against Spain. The Spaniards may have lost each of their previous three meetings with the Americans in the Olympics dating back to the 2008 Beijing Games, but all of those games have been close, with the average margin of defeat in those three losses just eight points.

After losing to Slovenia in their Group C finale, Spain was given this early matchup.

Slovenia will face Germany in the opening quarterfinal match, with the game starting at 9 p.m. ET. The US vs Spain matchup will follow that game and will begin at 12:40 a.m. ET.

The third quarterfinal matchup will feature Italy and France, with the game starting at 4:20 a.m. ET. Argentina and Australia conclude the round with their quarterfinal beginning at 8 a.m. ET. All matches can be seen on NBC's streaming service Peacock.

Biles looking for gold in final Olympic event

Simone Biles will look to end her Tokyo Olympics on a high note as she returns to action for Team USA in the women's balance beam final. Many thought Biles' campaign in Tokyo was over after withdrawing from the team final due to mental health concerns.

It appears Biles has gotten over her mental issues and will be gunning for her first gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics. She already has a silver in the Tokyo Games, which she picked up in the team event. The action begins at 4 a.m. ET with Peacock providing the coverage.

Knockout rounds are in order as well for the United States women in both water polo and beach volleyball today. April Ross and Alix Klineman will look to book a place in the semis when they face off with the German duo of Laura Ludwig and Margareta Kozuch in beach volleyball. The action begins at 8 p.m. ET with NBC airing the live broadcast.

Team USA will then see action in the pool for water polo, with the Americans taking on Canada in the quarterfinals of the women's event. The action begins at 1 a.m. ET and can be seen live on USA Network.
