American UFC Fighter Michael Chiesa beat Neil "The Haitian Sensation" Magny via unanimous decision in the main event Welterweight bout of the UFC Fight Island 8 at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
"Maverick" was not finished yet after his fourth consecutive win, as he challenged Colby Covington to be his next opponent.
Michael Chiesa Becomes a Welterweight Contender
Chiesa screamed the UFC headlines on Wednesday after his decisive win in the second event of the week's main show. The climax of the much-awaited UFC 257 will banner the rematch fight of Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor and former Interim UFC Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier.
Chiesa, 33, started the ladder from the lightweight division. His run, however, continued in losing fashion before he was strangled by Anthony Pettis through a guillotine hold en route to a triangle hold in 2018. Maverick finished 7-4 at the time.
In the most recent fight, Chiesa was poised for a prepared striking of his opponent. At the moment, Magny sailed on his three-bout win streak, which was overlooked by Maverick throughout the fight.
The Colorado-raised brawler relied on limited but continuous jabs and grapples, which sent Magny multiple times on the canvass. Chiesa had pinned Magny, and he was pinned back in return, but he did not surrender his defense to the Haitian sensation, the Sporting News reported.
After escaping the five-round duel, Chiesa shouted something in front of the arena's spectators.

Chiesa Calls Out Colby Covington
When Chiesa saw the opening, he immediately crawled to grasp Magny. Magny managed to get out of Chiesa's chokehold, but the last round was ruled out in favor of Chiesa, who pulled a 49-46, 49-46, 49-46 win.
According to ESPN, Chiesa was ranked at No. 10 before his fight against Magny. By surviving the 25-minute scuffle with a triumphant statement, he already has the opportunity to challenge the contender match for the next fight. Chiesa shouted without hesitation and called out Colby Covington to be his next opponent.

"If I wasn't able to push through five rounds, I can't even talk about being a champion. With that being said, the election is over: Colby Covington, your schtick is done. I want you next, boy!" Chiesa called out Covington, a die-hard Trump supporter, as per DAZN.
Before Chiesa fights Covington, the No. 1 Welterweight fighter will first square off with Jorge Masvidal, his former best friend. It could identify the next possible bout wherein the winner could fight either Kamaru Usman or Gilbert Burns.
If that happens, Chiesa would only have to wait before challenging Covington. He could settle first for Stephen Thompson, who just outsmarted Geoff Neal last December.
