When the Heisman winner was announced, the fans already knew who won.

Alabama Crimson Tide football wide receiver DeVonta Smith won the most prestigious Heisman Trophy in college football on Tuesday night. Smith was the first wide receiver to bag the award in 29 years since Desmond Howard of Michigan in 1991.

DeVonta Smiths Wins Heisman Trophy

Smith was voted as the victor over teammate Mac Jones, Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence, and Florida Gators quarterback Kyle Trask. He tallied a total of 1,856 points, while Lawrence finished second in the ballot with 1,187 points. His teammate Jones had 1,130 points at the third spot, while Trask ended in the fourth spot with 737 points.

The voting for the Heisman trophy was split into three: 870 media personnel, 56 former Weisman winners, and the rest are from the fans.

In Alabama football history, DeVonta Smith became the third player to grab the Heisman Trophy. The first one was running back Mark Ingram of Baltimore Ravens, who pocketed the Heisman award in 2009. Ingram was followed by Tennessee Titans rushing champ Derrick Henry who became the second Heisman awardee in 2015.

Now leading the SEC West, the Crimson Tide will meet the Ohio State Buckeyes for the college football championship on Monday. DeVonta Smith's success just got in time for the team's much-needed inspiration. Smith was not only the best wide receiver in college football now, but he is also the best offensive player as of the moment.

When DeVonta Smith was a freshman receiver three years ago, he caught a 41-yarder pass from Tua Tagovailoa in overtime. Alabama Crimson Tide went to vanquish Georgia Bulldogs in a close 26-23 victory to win the College Football Playoff national championship.

"To all the young kids out there who aren't the biggest, not the strongest, just keep pushing. I'm not the biggest, I've been doubted a lot because of my size, and really, it just comes down to if you put your mind to it, you can do it. No job's too big," Smith said in his speech as he thanked his parents and his team.

DeVonta Smith touchdowns this season

DeVonta Smith moved like a pantomime in the field as he carries a total of 22 touchdowns this season. The young receiver from Louisiana also boasted his nerve-wracking 105 catches for 1,641 yards. The rushing touchdown and a punt return touchdown were also in his pocket.

There is no impossible for Smith, as he can be an all-around player during the game.

When compared to other college receivers, Smith was far more superior. With at least 19 catches over 400 receiving yards, he also notched better records more than any college footballer.

The challenge for Smith was to continue the flawless campaign of the Crimson Tide. The absence of Jaylen Waddle due to an ankle injury helped Smith to even amped his game. Entering the season last year, Alabama bragged Smith and Waddle's presence as the best partner in reception in college football.

However, Smith did not stop there. When Waddle was sidelined, Smith hoarded the in-game chores for Alabama through his 100 plus receptions in six of the seven matches. He even exceeded to pass the 200-yard mark two times.

In Alabama's match against LSU Tigers, Smith netted three touchdown passes in the first half. Mr. Heisman concluded the complete routing of the Tigers with eight receptions for 231 yards.

On Halloween, Smith seized 11 catches within 2,013 yards, together with four touchdowns in a win over Mississippi State Bulldogs.

In the title game against Florida Gators, DeVonta Smith never minded the Heisman voting in the last two days. Instead, he focused on pulling a decisive victory over Florida with two touchdowns and season-high 15 catches for 184 yards.

Last Friday, their latest battle against Notre Dame spotted Smith with three touchdowns and seven catches for 130 yards.
