Legend has it that squash continues to dwindle from rising as a sport.

It comes with a resounding sadness that the sport known as squash is slowly reaching the point of heavy decline.

In a report by Alton Post Gazette, the popularity of squash swerved as the year progressed. Starting from 11,821 bookings in 2012, it fell to 10,959 in 2013, followed by a 9,083 decrease in the following year. In 2015, 6,940 were the only recorded bookings before it even touched 6,468 in 2016.

Squash, just like other racket sports, is commenced with a racket and ball. The said sport is described as an indoor activity where two players are enclosed in a four-walled court. The objective of the game is for the players to launch successive hits against the wall, including hitting the ball in and out of the line. Such an instance delivers the ball to bounce, suggesting that players should be agile to roam around the court.

The Alton Sports Center before had a four-court proposal to occupy the space for squash. Now, there are only two squash courts given, an evident proof of the importance of the game.

Also, the squash courts are deemed to be costly for the players, especially the private ones. The consequence bears a gravity of negligence in sports, with several clubs going on hiatus.

Additionally, a blog from Australian speaker Dr. Marc Dussault reveals that only a few recognize the existence of squash as a sport. The realization has sunk in for a while and left the people something to ponder.

Dussault wrote that the existence of squash from his place was a remote knowledge to the people. For the past five years of competing, he finds out that no one has heard of it before.

The truth was freezing at air-tight pace with the addition of information of its whereabouts. The squash, in all seriousness, was only played in Queensland. It was the lone place if you want to watch squash.

Serious Quash thought that to raise squash's popularity in the commons, terminologies regarding the sport should be improved.

Moreover, Dussault highlighted that the scoring systems doubled the pain for the players. The ringing call for the support only cries insult because the organizers themselves have little knowledge of the squash scoring.

Before, a survey of 38,172 respondents is conducted in the U.S. to find out if there is an increase in the number of squash players. It was concluded that in 2011, 1.1 million citizens played the sport. Out of that number, it was found out that 400,000 took squash to a competitive level.

The players' age ranged from 25 to 44, which comprised 64 percent of the competitive squash players. Previously, it was hinted that the number of players reduced after college, but the survey proved it to be false.

It was clear that yesterday is far different than today.

As a sports fan, we could only hope that squash can recuperate from the slow death that it is experiencing. The sport has a lot of room to improve, and still, more promotions should be launched for the people's attention. In hindsight, we should keep learning about the sport - and playing it continuously to unveil its hidden beauty and complexity all at the same time.
