Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers hopes to defy father time as he looks forward to playing in the league until 40.

The 34-year-old Rodgers who will turn a year older this December will be entering his 14th season in the National Football League. Rodgers still has two years left on his contract as the star quarterback is expected to receive $19.8 million this year and $20 million next season.

Despite the luxurious pay, Pro Football Talk journalist Darin Gantt believes that Rodgers is woefully underpaid. However, Rodgers has expressed his desire to remain in Wisconsin for the rest of his storied career. The Packers will hold the most leverage in any new deal after wielding the franchise tag for the next two years.

Packers To Offer Rodgers New Contract

According to multiple sources, the Packers are likely to give Rodgers a new contract in the coming months, that would ultimately make him the highest-paid player in the NFL. Sources said that Rodgers' next deal will be a guaranteed contract that includes an opt-out privilege.

However, the two-time Most Valuable Player knows the reality of the league, citing that team officials make decisions that are in the best interest of the squad. Earlier in the offseason, the Packers decided to part ways with Rodgers' best friend Jordy Nelson.

"How many guys get to actually pick the way and the team how they go out? You know? Hardly anybody. You have to understand that's a real possibility. But yeah, my dream situation would be to stay in Green Bay," Rodgers said.

Rodgers added that he is hoping to work out a deal with the Packers, that would tie the annual value of his contract to any increases in the salary cap. Doing so would enable Rodgers to earn the percentage of the cap instead of the lump sum of each season.

Can Rodgers Stay Healthy?

Bleacher Report's Timothy Rapp believes that the next contract of Rodgers could break a new ground in the league if he remains in the level he's currently at. The six-time Pro Bowler has been a spectacle to watch for the Packers as Rodgers registered incredible statistical numbers of 4428 yards and 40 touchdowns during the 2016 season.

In addition, Rodgers was also able to complete 65.7 percent of his passes while recording seven interceptions. Nonetheless, clavicle injuries hampered the stellar performances of Rodgers as the Super Bowl champion was sidelined for nine games last season.
