Wendell Carter Jr.'s Family Doesn't Like Duke's Coach K: Here's Why

The parents of Wendell Carter Jr. are adamant about their son's former head coach, Mike Krzyzewski, citing that the Chicago Bulls draftee was mishandled in Duke.

Wendell Carter Jr.'s Parents Disappointed With Coach K

His father, Wendell Carter Sr. said that they felt lied by Krzyzewski after the esteemed mentor had promised them that his son will be the face of the Duke Blue Devils.

"I was concerned because I felt like we were lied to. Oh, Wendell's gonna be the man and the rug was pulled from under us," Carter Sr. said.

Carter Jr.'s mother, Kylia, also shares the same sentiments, stating that she was pissed with how his son's season turned out. His son committed to join the Blue Devils in November of 2016. Kylia added that she expects to see coach Krzyzewski to watch a Bulls game in the near future.

Carter Jr., who was selected by the Bulls with the seventh overall pick in this year's draft, averaged a near double-double with the Blue Devils unleashing 13.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.

On the other hand, Marvin Bagley III, who was considered as the top recruit of 2018, ultimately decided to reclassify and join last year's team. Carter Jr. and his family were uninformed with the Bagley's plan of attending Duke last year.

Nonetheless, Carter Jr. explained that he didn't take a backseat to give Bagley the spotlight but rather, he took a sacrifice to help the team win.

Struggling To Find Niche

Despite being ranked as the sixth-best player in the nation last 2017, Carter Jr. played second fiddle to Bagley. Bagley who was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the second overall pick of this year's draft had incredible averages of 21.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per night.

NBC sports journalist Vincent Goodwill believes that the late addition of Bagley to Duke greatly affected the development of Carter Jr. as a player. He added that the Carter Jr. turned from a top pick candidate into being someone lost in a shadow of a highly-touted player.

While Carter Jr. became the second-highest rated hooper in the Duke class behind Trevon Duval, Bagley proved to be the most successful as he went on to win the consensus first-team All-America honors.

However, the Blue Devils failed to move into the Final Four after Grayson Allen's game-winning shot in regulation did not hit the target. The Blue Devils eventually lost to Kansas in the overtime period.
