Erstwhile world champion Rey Mysterio is set to make his triumphant return to the WWE the soonest possible time.

The 175-pound wrestler electrified the WWE fans last January when he participated in the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. It also marked Mysterio's first WWE appearance since 2014. Mysterio also appeared in the 50-man Greatest Royal Rumble match, which was scheduled in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia last April.

Rey Mysterio's Possible Return To WWE 'Looking Good'

Mysterio told Mighty 1090's Scott and BR of San Diego that he is currently discussing a possible return to the company. The 5-foot-6 warrior added that he is looking to sign a part-time three-year deal with WWE.

"It's looking really good for a possible return," he said. "Because the fans want to see me there," Mysterio added when asked what made him decide to return.

Signing The Former Champ Is Good For Business

Mysterio is expected to go to either the SmackDown Live or the 205 Live. During his stint with the company, Mysterio has accumulated numerous accolades such as becoming a two-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion and a one-time WWE Champion.

Mysterio also bagged the Intercontinental Championship twice, as well as becoming a three-time Cruiserweight champion. In addition, Mysterio is also a four-time WWE Tag Team Champion.

Besides being a champion, Mysterio has also etched his name into the history books of WWE by winning the coveted Royal Rumble as the number two entrant. Mysterio also competed in the inaugural Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 30. He fought Bad News Barrett the next night in what turned out as his final singles match in WWE.

Aside from competing in the WWE, Mysterio also enjoyed great success in WCW where he became a five-time Cruiserweight Champion. Additionally, the San Diego native was also able to capture the WCW Tag Team Titles thrice and the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship once.

June 19 Is Rey Mysterio Day In San Diego

Earlier this week, the city of San Diego paid tribute to Mysterio by making June 19 a Rey Mysterio Day. He was honored by the city because it is 6/19. Mysterio is widely known in the world of professional wrestling for his finisher, which is known as the 6-1-9. Interestingly, 619 also happens to be area code of San Diego.

Mysterio is expected to make an appearance at New Japan's Cow Palace show on July 7 and AAA's Triplemania XXVI on Aug. 25. He is also likely to compete at All In this September.
