An artificial intelligence simulator predicted that Spain has the biggest chance of winning the 2018 World Cup, which is currently being held in Moscow, Russia.

While bookmakers are looking at Germany to win it all, the AI simulator created by an international team of researchers sees Spain as the eventual winner of the biggest spectacle in football.

AI Simulator Predicts Spain To Win World Cup

Academicians from the Technische Universitat Dortmund, the Technical University of Munich in Germany and Ghent University in Belgium joined forces to establish this AI simulator. The AI simulator based its prediction on 100,000 simulations and database of statistics from previous tournaments using three AI methods to compute the numbers.

Based on its computation using the random forest method, Spain will emerge as victorious but it will be a close one. By analyzing the winning probabilities conditional on reaching the single stages of the tournament, the researchers said Spain is slightly favored over Germany.

Germany Could Face Tough Competition

Germany has a high chance of dropping out in the round of 16. Also, this team has more difficult opponents during the course of the event. According to their research, Spain has 17.8 percent chance of winning while Germany came in at a close second with 17.1 percent.

The AI simulator placed Brazil with the third highest chance of winning at 12.3 percent. France came in fourth at 11.2 percent, and Belgium at 10.4 percent.

Argentina was sixth with 7.3 percent, England at 7.1 percent, Portugal at 2.5 percent, and Croatia and Switzerland tied with 2.2 percent chance of winning. The AI determined that Saudi Arabia has 0 percent chance of reaching the final.

Brazil Favorite To Win World Cup

According to bookmakers, Brazil will start its World Cup campaign as a 7-2 favorite thanks to the return of superstar Neymar. The Brazilian soccer phenomenon suffered a metatarsal injury in February, but he played recently in an exhibition match against Croatia.

In the group stage, Brazil is an overwhelming -450 favorite in Group E while Switzerland is at +700, Serbia at +800, and Costa Rica at +2000. Meaning, anyone can win $100 if he bets $450 on Brazil.

Defending champion Germany is a 4-1 favorite and France is at third at 6-1. However, they would have to survive the group stage before heading into the knockout part of the tournament.

The favorites in other groups are Uruguay (Group A), Spain (Group B), France (Group C), Argentina (Group D), Germany (Group F), Belgium (Group G) and Colombia (Group H). In the opening round match on Thursday, host Russia blanked Saudi Arabia, 5-0.
