Celtics Rumors: Brad Stevens to Get Fired if Boston Gets Eliminated by Bulls in First Round?

The Boston Celtics are in trouble of getting swept by the eighth-seeded Chicago Bulls in the first round of the 2017 NBA playoffs. The rumors suggest that if the Celtics do not manage to overcome the 0-2 deficit, head coach Brad Stevens is in danger of getting fired.

According to John Tomase of WEEI.com, Brad Stevens is already on the hot seat after the Bulls won the first two games in Boston. The Bulls managed to squeak out a 106-102 win in Game 1 but they managed to embarrass the Celtics in Game 2 with an 111-97 victory.

"It's his job to figure out how to convince everyone to take a deep breath, relax, and play like a top seed because, despite the first two games, this series remains eminently winnable. Otherwise, not only will the summer start early, but so will the questions about Stevens' viability as a coach in the playoffs," Tomase points out.

Brad Stevens is one of the best up and coming head coaches in the NBA. He was a master for the Gonzaga Bulldogs before being hired by the Celtics in 2013. He led Boston to the playoffs in his second season that was deemed by many as an improbable achievement given the team had no star and Isaiah Thomas was still the sixth man.

Statistically speaking, Brad Stevens is the worst head coach in NBA playoff history. He was a 2-10 record after getting swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2015 and losing to the Atlanta Hawks in six games last year. Some people are already blaming Stevens for the collapse of the Celtics but some are putting the blame of general manager Danny Ainge.

According to Dieter Kurtenbach of FOX Sports, the blame should be on Ainge for not pulling a big trade at the deadline. The Celtics were in a position to acquire Jimmy Butler or Paul George, two players who can go toe-to-toe with LeBron James, but Ainge decided not to make the deal.

The Celtics might have an early summer this season or they could pull off a comeback against the Bulls. Game 3 of the series is on April 21, Friday at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
