Ferrari's racing prowess is undeniably superb. However, the entry of McLaren's 720S unit may change that perspective. Apparently, the British auto company's rapid model-development program has something up its sleeves.

The presence of the 2018 McLaren 720S unveils how efficient the Woking-based automotive firm has developed its racing engines within a considerably short stretch of time. Just six years ago, the MP4-12C has come off the ramped as a prototype to the McLaren's series of fast cars. Three years after the enhanced 650S vehicle surfaced, the racing organization is now equipped with a unit that will blow the competition at the tracks.

The upcoming McLaren 720S is driven by a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine under the passenger compartment. The machine is able to unleash a horsepower of 710. What is notable about the automobile is the integration of a sophisticated Monocage II carbon-fiber composite tub whose architecture is set to keep the unit even lighter during the race.

Compared to its 650S predecessor, the 2018 McLaren 720S is armed with integral carbon A-pillars together with a windshield header of the same element. A central roof component is also in place to provide mounting structures for a B-pillar hoop, wide-broaching doors and buttresses. The English firm has perceived that the frame is 39 pounds less than the MonoCell prototype.

The twin-turbocharged V-8 engine of the McLaren 720S has undergone a significant upgrade where the displacement jumped from 3.8 to 4 liters. This considerably new M840T machine has also integrated cylinder heads and pistons including a fresh crankshaft. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission handles torque activities which are controlled by the rear wheels.

When it comes to accelerating, the enhancement of the 2018 McLaren 720S is quite astounding. In less than three seconds, the unit is able to hit the 60mph speed. Within eight ticks, the car attains the 124mph mark. By the time the vehicle inches within 21.4 seconds, 186mph is achieved.

Perhaps the most distinct feature of the McLaren 720S is its painted front fascia which is situated between the headlights and the redesigned lower air intakes. In addition to the car's brighter and bigger eye sockets, the automobile is also equipped with new heat extractor vents within the doors. At the rear, rounded exhaust pipes and slim curved LED taillights are in place. A foldable instrument panel is prominent in the cabin.
