The Chattanooga plant in Tennessee has manufactured its first SUV in the form of the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas. Here is a vehicle that certainly looks like a crossbred unit on a first glimpse. Upfront, it resembles the Dacia Duster while the Jeep Grand Cherokee surfaces when viewed from the rear.

However, the Atlas is every inch a Volkswagen product. Its size is most probably its attribute. The unit is a lot bigger than the Golf. Although it is closely compared to the Audi Q7 in terms of realm, the girth is wider than a Tiguan or a Golf All-track.

The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas comes off the platform with an 8-speed automatic transmission machine. Aside from a 230hp 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo-charged engine, the unit also presents a 280hp 3.6-liter variant. In addition to a standard front-wheel drive, an all-wheel option is also being offered.

What makes the Atlas a compelling choice for road exploration is its considerably wide cabin. It has three comfortable seating rows to accommodate passengers. Judging from its 198-inch length and 78inch width, it has an immediate resemblance to the Nissan Pathfinder and the Ford Explorer.

Tech-wise, the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas provides a touchscreen-managed and digitally-interfaced infotainment system. In addition to the Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink availability, a Fender audio system is also in place.

Safety features of the Atlas include a blind-spot monitor, lane keeping assist, forward collision prevention and a parking assistant. Adaptive cruise control is also added.

The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas presents a hulking outlook. A two-bar grille with square headlight casing is installed in front. A touch of chrome strip with an embossed badge is instituted at the rear portion. Moreover, the unit's exhaust ends are incorporated into the lower bumper.
