General Motors (GM) is eyeing to make a deeper impact in the growing Crossover Utility Vehicles (CUV) market. The Michigan-based automaker has tinkered with its fifth-placed Chevrolet unit in order to unravel a distinct presence in the industry.

The entry of the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox brings a fresh face into the field of compact crossovers. Here is a car that has been trimmed down in order to bring out a compelling look. The loss of weight has turned the CUV into a swift entity on the road. At 170hp, the unit can run with the best powertrains out there.

Although the Chevrolet Equinox takes a backseat to the Honda CR-V and the Ford Escape in terms of speed, it still has the edge when it comes to torque. Its 203 pound-feet of twisting force is better than the rest including the Nissan Rogue and the Toyota RAV4.

Like the Escape, the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox uses a 6-speed automatic transmission. It has been set to tap into the fastest gear when the throttle picks up momentum. However, there is no sports mode and no Performance Algorithm Shift system to lean on. Although a light 1.5-liter 4-cylinder turbo-only engine mans the hood, the vehicle is no pushover.

In less than nine ticks, the Equinox is able to hit the 60mph mark. As of late, GM has enhanced its product with the release of a 2-liter variant that is able to unleash 252hp with 260 pound-feet of torque. This 9-speed edition is set to give the Ford EcoBoost a run for its money. In addition, a 1.6-liter turbo diesel brand is also on its way.

The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox has been integrated with smart materials. Ride-control bushings are installed in order to provide a smoother ride. A craftily-defined steering wheel is also in place.

In addition to the 17-inch aluminum wheels, the Chevrolet Equinox is also equipped with LED daytime running lights and a review camera. Its MyLink infotainment system comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto compatibility plus a built-in Wi-Fi hot spot.
