Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are going to visit United States president Donald Trump at the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl LI win on April 19. The Patriots are the first sports team that will visit Trump since he became president.

According to Maggie Haberman of the New York Times, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer announced on Thursday afternoon that Tom Brady and the Patriots will visit the POTUS on April 19. President Trump is a known friend of Brady, Bill Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

However, several members of the Patriots' Super Bowl-winning team have expressed their intentions not to join Tom Brady in visiting the White House. Some of the players not coming to shake hands with President Trump include current Packers tight end Martellus Bennett, free agent running back LeGarrette Blount, free agent defense end Chris Long, safety Devin McCourty and linebacker Dont'a Hightower.

Even Super Bowl star James White is still undecided whether or not he wants to join Tom Brady and the rest of the team in meeting the controversial president, per CBS Sports. The Patriots became the first team to visit President Trump since the Chicago Cubs decided to schedule their visit in advance and meet with former President Barack Obama instead.

In an interview with WEEI last January, Tom Brady revealed that he's been good friends with Donald Trump for almost two decades. He noted that he calls the now-POTUS via phone just to check on him from time to time.

"I have called him, yes, in the past. Sometimes he calls me. Sometimes I call but, again, that's been someone I've known. I always try to keep it in context because for 16 years you know someone before maybe he was in the position that he was in. He's been very supportive of me for a long time. It's just a friendship," Brady said.

Tom Brady was criticized by some people for his friendship with Donald Trump but they have known each other way before Trump became president. Brady brought the attention to himself when a "Make America Great Again" hat was seen in his locker at Gillette Stadium.
