Looks like OnePlus will have to skip one number naming its next flagship phone. So, there will be a jump from OnePlus 3T to OnePlus 5.

Number 4 is considered bad luck in Chinese tradition because it is almost homophonous with the word for death or decease, so instead of naming upcoming device OnePlus 4, the company will name it OnePlus 5 directly.

According to Express, OnePlus 5 is rumored to sport an industrial design similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge with an edge-to-edge, dual-curved display. The phone is expected to ship with a ceramic body like Xiaomi Mi Mix. There will be a 23-megapixel primary camera and a 16-megapixel secondary camera.

Currently, only Samsung has the access to Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip, so OnePlus will have to wait for more chips or opt for an older processor. OnePlus 3T already offers Snapdragon 821 processor so the company will wait for some time to get the latest chips. OnePlus 5 would be powered by 4,000 mAh battery with dash charge functionality using USB Type-C.

According to GSM Arena, OnePlus will stick with 6 GB RAM in OnePlus 5 like its predecessors or it can increase it up to 8 GB. The upper model will offer 256 GB internal storage.

OnePlus 5 will run Android Nougat and Oxygen OS on top of it. Recently, OnePlus released the OxygenOS 4.1.0 update through an Over the Air update with official support for Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

OnePlus recently teamed up with Colette Paris and created limited edition version of OnePlus 3T. While regular price of the phone is $479, the Colette Edition of the phone is priced at $510. If it receives a good response, the company might partner with Colette to make a special edition of OnePlus 5 as well.

Samsung will launch Galaxy S8 on March 29, so if OnePlus is targeting it then it will have to release the flagship phone in May/ June. Fans are eagerly waiting for their perfect mid-ranged phone, OnePlus 5.
