"Cyberpunk 2077" is acclaimed game developer CD Projekt RED's upcoming game. Expectations are running high for the sci-fi game as RED's last game was one most beloved medieval fantasy RPGs of all time in "The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt." But considering RED's history of improving upon every game they develop, gamers are confident that they won't be disappointed with the upcoming game as it is pegged to sell more copies than the latest Witcher game.
Speaking to Polish website Gazeta, CD Projekt RED co-founder Michal Kicińsk comments about "Cyberpunk 2077" potential as their biggest game to date. According to the founder, he didn't expect the success and praise "The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt" received adding that the game got almost every conceivable accolade and award for a video game. But despite the success both critically and commercially, the founder believes that there is still more room for improvement in terms of sales. For CD Projekt RED, their goal is to catch up to sales figures of the bigger game developers like EA and Rockstar.
In comparison, GTA 5 is one of the best selling games this generation accounting to 75 million copies sold since its release as reported by Polygon. Meanwhile, the Witcher 3 has sold more than 10 million copies according to DSOG. CD Projekt Red has a lot of catching up to do if it hopes to compete with GTA 5. But Kicińsk is confident that "Cyberpunk 2077" will be better than the "Witcher 3's" sales.
The founder believes that the setting of "Cyberpunk 2077" will be its trump card over the Witcher series. He feels that the sci-fi setting of Cyberpunk is more popular than the medieval fantasy setting of The Witcher. And with the new game, CD Projekt RED's creative juices will be unleashed. The developer has only developed Witcher games ever since their inception and a new sense of freedom will surely benefit the developer.
As of now, a release date for "Cyberpunk 2077" hasn't been announced. Stay tuned for more updates.
