The Bruins have struggled on the road, dropping three straight away from the TD Garden while the Hurricanes have had a solid recent home schedule where the team has garnered nine points out of a possible 12 in their last six contests at home.
Boston started out its road schedule a perfect 4-0-0 but now finds itself looking to avoid a fourth straight road loss.
"I thought we had a good start this year on the road," coach Claude Julien told the Boston Globe following practice Sunday. "We won our first four. We've slipped since then. We've got to pick up our game here on the road. It's not going to get any easier. It's only going to get tougher. So we need some quality play from our hockey club."
The Hurricanes are coming off of a 4-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday after a third period goal by the Blues broke a 2-2 tie.
"It stung getting scored on in the third," said Hurricanes goalie Justin Peters. "[Steen] came down and made a good shot."
Carolina is expected to have Cam Ward back from injury between the pipes. Ward has started in eight games this season and is 2-2-3 with a 2.81 goals-against average along with a .912 save percentage. Tuukka Rask is 10-5-1 for the Bruins this year in the crease with a 1.68 GAA and a .943 save percentage. Rask ranks fourth in the league in GAA and fifth in save percentage.
The Hurricanes have been led on the score sheet by Eric Staal, who has five goals and six assists for 11 points while Nathan Gerbe has ten points off of five tallies and five helpers and Jeff Skinner has found the twine three times and added six assists for nine points. Alexander Semin also has nine points off of three goals and six assists, but he's sidelined after sustaining an upper-body injury against the Blues.
For the Bruins, David Krejci has three goals and 13 assists for 16 points while Milan Lucic has lit the lamp eight times and added seven helpers for 15 points and Torey Krug has six tallies and six assists for 12 points.
The Bruins will look to find their road success again while the Hurricanes hope to keep up a dominant run at home when the puck drops in North Carolina tonight.
