"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" was such a blockbuster hit that fans wanted a sequel to the movie. A sequel is really impossible to do simply because all of the main characters of "Rogue One" died in the story. Plus, "Rogue One" already has a sequel in "Star Wars: A New Hope".

Good thing for fans the Star Wars universe is a vast one and has many chapters for Disney to explore different storylines that could also be made into different mediums and platforms. Disney announced on Friday, Feb. 17, that a sequel to "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story", in the form a new book titled "Star Wars: Inferno Squad", is in the works, according to a report from Slash Film. The story of "Inferno Squad" follows immediately after the events that took place in "Rogue One".

The "Star Wars: Inferno Squad" should come as great news for Star Wars fans hoping for a sequel to "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story". Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy has already shut down hopes of a sequel last year after the release of "Rogue One", via a report from Slash Film.

Little is still known about the plot of "Star Wars: Inferno Squad. But one thing is certain and that is the events in "Inferno Squad" will be taking place either near or during the events of "A New Hope", since "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" ended just hours before the opening story of "A New Hope".

"Star Wars: Inferno Squad" tells the story of how the Empire reacted after the turn of events that took place in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story". After the embarrassment of letting the Rebellion steal the plans to the Death Star and subsequently destroy the battle station, the Imperial Navy of the Empire ordered the formation of an elite team of soldiers, called the Inferno Squad. Its sole mission is to infiltrate and eliminate the remaining survivors of Saw Gerrera's Partisans.

"Star Wars: Inferno Squad" will be written by Christie Golden. The book is due to be released on July 25, 2017.
