Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor have been going back and forth about the Mayweather vs McGregor boxing match for quite some time. However, up until now, the overly hyped super fight has remained to be all chatter and speculation.

Floy Mayweather speaking with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith said recently that the Mayweather vs McGregor bout is very, very close from happening. This has been the tone of Mayweather's statement whenever asked about the being hyped super fight against the UFC champion.

According to RollingStone, UFC President Dana White immediately texted ESPN's Brett Okamoto when the news that the Mayweather vs McGregor fight is close to happening was reported. White reportedly said that "no deal is even close to being done."

Conor McGregor seemed to share Mayweather's early optimism to make the fight happen as he is often heard saying that he wants to face the undefeated boxing champion for his next bout. McGregor even applied for a boxing license to make the fight happen.

However, Mayweather seemed to have had a change of heart as he is now claiming that a Mayweather vs McGregor boxing deal has not yet been agreed upon by both parties. This sudden change of rhetoric has once again fueled the speculation that Mayweather is not really serious to take on the UFC champion.

After several months of hinting that the Mayweather vs McGregor is close from happening, the undefeated pugilist backpedaled and announced on his Instagram that no deal has been made for him to fight the UFC champion or anyone else for that matter. Mayweather even said that he is happily retired on the Instagram post.

McGregor threw a jab directly at Mayweather with a witty response to Mayweather's happily retired post. "I am in Las Vegas," McGregor posted on his twitter page, "Floyd has retired on my arrival."
