NBA Trade Rumors: Cavaliers Interested In Mavericks' Deron Williams

Without mixing up any stuff, LeBron James has made his feelings quite clear about the Cavaliers' current roster when he told the reporters that the team must add a play-maker off the bench. Taking these requests from James into consideration, the Cavaliers are working out for Lance Stephenson, Kirk Hinrich and Mario Chalmers.

The team management are also looking for a playmaker via trade and have reportedly reached out to the Dallas Mavericks about Deron Williams, who would certainly fulfill the request of LeBron James and be a perfect fit off the bench for the Cavaliers. The Mavericks in turn are interested in Iman Shumpert, so maybe both the teams could work out a deal that has both parties as winners.

Recent reports have suggested this update about the Cavaliers taking a trade route too, to get a playmaker who can impact off the bench. Deron Williams, 32, three-time All Star is in his final year of his deal ($9 million), and quite interestingly worth noting that Mavericks have shown interest in Iman Shumpert previously too when he was a free agent (he's owed a combined $31 million for this season and the next two, with a player option for 2018-19).

Currently, Williams is no longer an All-star as once he was. But, his quality is still immense and is producing good performances, and is averaging 13.5 points and 7.1 assists in 30.1 minutes for the Mavericks this season. If the Cavaliers are able to acquire Williams, his production rate might increase as he mainly will be going up against second unit of opposing teams. But, the contradiction is that the Mavericks have no interest in trading the player.

Anything is possible in trades, of course, but if Williams is truly not gonna be traded by Mavericks then perhaps the Cavaliers should look for the players they are bringing in for a workout. Stephenson or Chalmers might be their best bet.
